The role

Based at Cheltenham Imaging Centre you will be responsible for the safe delivery of a MRI scanning service, including the x-ray and ultrasound services and support the development of the rapid access clinics, representing the Charity in accordance with strategic objectives and contractual requirements.

You will engage with all stakeholders to ensure an integrated clinical service is maintained regarding workforce, clinical governance, health and safety, IRMER compliance and risk management.

There is a clinical commitment with this post undertaking MRI scanning sessions at the imaging centre, occasional cover in x-ray and an administrative role supporting the health and safety, CQC, QSI and ISO accreditations (Approx 75% administrative to 25% clinical split).

This role is considered full time based on 37.5 hours per week and worked across five days, between Monday-Friday.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Establish and promote good working relationships with all stakeholders regarding the development and expansion of the service in accordance with contractual requirements and the strategic objectives of the Charity.
  • Assist the Director of Clinical Operations in carrying out their legal duties as registered CQC Manager for the organisation.
  • To support the services during visits by Trusts or industry stakeholders including CQC and QSI inspectors.
  • Responsible for keeping open communication pathways with and between staff and managers regarding the service, whom ever appropriate to modality.
  • Responsible for all MRI, digital radiography and ultrasound services at the Imaging Centre.
  • Lead quality standards including QSI and ISO accreditations within clinical remit working closely with the quality and clinical governance managers.
  • Responsible for MRI safety providing expert guidance and direction to teams across the organisation.
  • Lead the development of Quality Improvement Plans for the MRI, digital radiography and ultrasound services including development of new processes to drive efficiencies, in liaison with the wider management teams.
  • Stay informed on regulatory changes, trends, and innovations related to patient experience, providing direction to staff on suitable standards in collaboration with the clinical governance and patient safety manager.
  • Ensure the MRI, digital radiography and ultrasound departments are operated to the highest level of clinical and research governance.
  • Establish and oversee research based practice with responsibility for the development of research projects in liaison with the MRI research radiographer and senior research leadership team.
  • Manage MRI personnel at all levels, collaborate, and forge positive relationships with all multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective communication to create an efficient work environment.
  • Ensures due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and to ensure patients views are sought and taken into account. To promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
  • Provide well being support to MRI personnel and allied personnel where appropriate.
  • Participate in the on-call rota for MRI mobile/relocatable logistics, breakdowns and staffing in liaison with the clinical operations hub.

Skills and experience

  • HCPC registration
  • DCR or BSc in Radiography
  • Post Graduate qualification in CT, MRI or PET/CT or equivalent is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in MRI covering all body areas, techniques and contrast media management at as a minimum supervisory level.
  • An in-depth knowledge of theoretical and clinical MRI and digital radiography is essential. 
  • Experience of delivering clinical diagnostic services including the development and implementation of processes and pathways to improve patient and staff experience.
  • Experience managing clinical teams in a management role is essential.
  • High level of professionalism and technical standard of work compliant with relevant Codes of Practice.

Cobalt Health headquarters is in the spa town of Cheltenham within the heart of the Cotswolds. The Imaging Centre houses 1.5T and 3.0T MRI, PET/CT, CT, XR and Ultrasound scanners. The imaging departments support daily rapid access clinics providing same day diagnostic imaging.

We are offering an experienced senior radiographer the opportunity to lead and deliver high quality and safe MRI, x-ray and Ultrasound services at the imaging centre. This role is a key position within the management structure. You will be skilled in working closely with all clinical teams at all levels to deliver the strategic objectives of the Charity. You will have an excellent knowledge of clinical services, governance, regulation and risk management, including health and safety. You will have proven experience developing and implementing new policy within imaging services, strive for continuous improvement in the patient experience and highly skilled managing people and their wellbeing. 

Cobalt has a strong commitment supporting research and collaborates with several research organisations to provide PET/CT and MRI imaging for over 50 research trials focussed on oncology and dementia at the Imaging centre. Experience delivering research imaging is advantageous for this position.

Cobalt also supports a wide range of training and education programmes for clinical colleagues, host a mature MRI trainee programme from the imaging centre and aspire to develop and introduce a comprehensive and structured education and development package for radiographers who want to specialise in cross sectional radiography. We host radiography students and apprentices from several Universities and are invited to lecture in our areas of clinical expertise. There will be a strong desire to support the development of staff and students, particularly cross-sectional staff education programmes with the objective to implement an integrated and effective workforce.
